I am a primary school teacher is the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
After graduating from Deakin University in 2004 I started working at St Andrew’s Catholic Primary School, Clayton South (www.sandclys.melb.catholic.edu.au) where I taught Years 4 and 1.
During my time at St Andrew’s I have had many opportunities to use my skills and expertises. I was a member of the School’s concert production team which was in charge of running the performing arts program called “CrossArts”. I was responsible for establishing an exciting, safe and different environment where the students could sing, dance, act and perform to the St Andrew’s School Community.
I have a strong passion for integrating and ICT in all facets of life including education. I see the use of technology as an important set of skills that allows people to navigate, interact, learn and participate in current and future societies. Although the use of technology within education circles has traditionally being confined to a subject area, I see now, more than ever, that it be part of the skills that a person uses to learn to read, write and speak. Just as these basic skills are fundamental to being able to participate effectively within a society, so too are skills in technology that allow a person to seek, produce, analyse, filter and communicate information.
In 2007 I have began working at my second school as a Grade 6 teacher and the ICT coordinator of St Bede’s Primary School, North Balwyn. (www.sbedblwn.melb.catholic.edu.au)
At St Bede’s my main role involves working collarboratively with all teachers and levels to implement ICT and learning technologies into the classroom. The role allows me plan, implement and use of ICT skills and tools with teachers into their classrooms. I am also a support\mentor to teachers in their own use of ICT and professional learning of technology in their teaching practice.
In 2009 I am teaching 1 day a week in a Year One classroom. Check out our class blog… (under construction).
